Hey mom, don't I look great?
“Shake it, shake it, baby” was the “ABC” beat that walked me home – through a transister radio – from high school. Michael Jackson and his 4 brothers were 5 sparkling sticks of dynamite in every way: their sound, their colorful clothes, their dance moves, the expressions on their faces. Led by Michael (although Jermaine was the heart throb then), they seemed to be winding up to just take off from whatever stage they were commanding. And it all came across on that little battery-powered radio I carried to and from school. I wonder: did hearing and feeling that high level of energy shift to how I felt entering my school hallways? Did it provide the means by which I felt a joyful transition walking the several blocks home? Or, did my own moods and priorities allow me to only hear what was consistent with my feelings and tune out what wasn’t? How influential are we in creating our personal environment, picking from an array of elements and saying “this is how I live; this is what I see ; this is what is allowed in my world”. Or, conversely, are we so open to all the environmental features around us that exposure to sound, sight, temperature or experience shapes how we feel, see and interpret from moment to moment? I don’t know the answer however I do know that being aware of how we are led to circumstance, belief and action has a huge impact on what those circumstances, beliefs and actions are. Want to shift some of the elements in your environment to find a new realm of possibilities? Get up and“Shake it, shake it baby; ooh ooh”
